When the Roll is Called Up Yonder
by adustyframe ~ January 9th, 2010I’m playing this song for offertory Sunday, so I thought I’d find a version to share with you.
I think this choir did a beautiful job.
When the trumpet
Of the Lord shall sound,
And time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks,
Eternal, bright and fair:
When the saved of earth
Shall gather over on the other shore,
And the roll is called up yonder
I’ll be there.
Chorus:
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder
I’ll be there.
On that bright and cloudless morning,
When the dead in Christ shall rise
And the glory of His resurrection share:
When His chosen ones shall gather
To their home beyond the skies,
And the roll is called up yonder
I’ll be there.
Let us labour for the Master
From dawn till setting sun,
Let us talk of all His wondrous
Love and care,
Then, when all of life is over,
And our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder,
I’ll be there.

I remember my grandmother singing this song in her little country church. She didn’t have the best voice, but she sang with gusto. When I hear this song I always think of her.

Makes me miss our old Church–this was in a “medley” of favorite old hymns, jazzed up, that always got everyone “going”…..The Church we “mostly” attend now has a 90+ year old lady who plays the organ……I miss the “jazzed up” to get me going.
