A James Update

by adustyframe ~ January 12th, 2010

Moms love talking about their kiddos right? So, I thought I’d share what’s up with James lately.

He’s very excited about meeting his new cousin. He said, “Do you think Kathryn will let me hold him?” I said of course she will! He wants me to skip work (youth choir) and go visit them for a long time rather than just the weekend.

He checked out a kids cookbook at the library last week. He’s been making smoothies every day.

Today, he made some chocolate cookies with M&M’s. He’s turning into quite the chef.

He updated his blog today with what he learned about Amelia Earhart.

Last week in US Geography, we read a bit about Kansas and the book mentioned that she was from Kansas. At the library, we found a couple books about her and he’s been devouring them. I love seeing him take the initiative to learn about something beyond what we talked about in school.

He’s doing well in AWANA. He’s a pretty quick memorizer.

He earned his green belt in Tae Kwon Do right before Christmas. He set a goal of earning his black belt by the time he’s 13. We think that is a fabulous goal and I’m proud of him for aspiring to something hard.

His piano lessons are going well. My sister sent him a Christmas carol book at his level and he just took off. He’s doing much better in his regular piano lessons too.

He cracks me up on a regular basis. He loves making people laugh.

A few days ago he said to me, “Mom, I just don’t agree with that ‘hide God’s Word in your heart’ thing.”

I was ready to be mortified and explain the importance of hiding God’s word in your heart, but I asked him why he though that.

He said, “Well we’re not supposed to hide God’s Word, we’re supposed to tell people.”

Ah! I explained that “hiding God’s Word” just means memorize. He decided that was ok then.

Sometimes, he says things that make me sad. He said that he used to blow out his birthday candles and wish that dad could come home. Then he said he doesn’t make wishes anymore.

For Christmas, he got some nice things. He also got a coconut. Everyone thought that was a joke, but he really really wanted a coconut.

He was so excited about that coconut–just as excited as he was about the nice gifts. I thought that was pretty cool.

We started to make a coconut cake with it yesterday but it was moldy! Poor kid–I’ll have to get him another one and try again.

Thank you for all of your prayers for him. My biggest prayer is that he will grow to be a man who pleases God.

**If you have a minute to leave a comment on his blog, I’m sure he’ll be tickled.**

James – I am so impressed with you working on your piano lessons! I wasn’t lucky enough as a child to have the chance, and when I tried to learn as a grown up there were so many other things I had to get down first I never had the time to practice. I love music, and love worshipping God through song!

James is one very neat boy. I love hearing the things he is doing.
It makes me sad that James and Lee are for this time being denied the normal home llife together. We are praying that somehow soon that will be changed.
