Why We Need to Praise

by adustyframe ~ December 13th, 2010

Awhile I ago, I wrote about how to “cast your burdens on the Lord”. Today, I read something that seems to compliment those thoughts and I wanted to share them with you.

In How to Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say, Elmer Towns shares why we need to praise.I think that praising God especially during hard times is a part of casting our cares on God.

He shares–

1. Praise is good for us because it keeps us from being pessimists. Our attention is focused on something greater than our present situation.

2. Praise is good for us because it keeps us from being self-centered and negative.  Instead of being absorbed with ourselves and our burdens, we become absorbed with God.

3. Praise is good for us because he wants our praise and worship.

God doesn’t worship and praise himself. We bless the Lord by being redeemed souls who recognize his greatness and goodness for who he is and what he does for us.

The author reminds us that we can never perfectly praise God like the angels do because we have sin, but we can use the perfect Word of God to praise God. We can let the words of Scripture become our own.

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. ”

3 Thoughts Shared to Why We Need to Praise

  1. Pam

Thanks Lizzie….. Lots of anxiety here……..a great reminder that the Lord was Lord before this mess started…..and He will be Lord when it’s done……PTL

  2. Barbara H.

Good reminders, Lizzie. I read somewhere once that the “sacrifice of praise” mentioned in Hebrews 13:15 could mean praising when we don’t feel like it, or in the face of circumstances that wouldn’t lend themselves naturally to praise.

  3. Janet

Thank you for the reminder! I tend to not praise the Lord enough, but when I do, boy, do I feel so much better!
