Sick Day

by adustyframe ~ January 12th, 2011

You know when I thought, “It would be nice to have an excuse to lay around for a couple days.” I didn’t mean as a sickie!

I slept for 2 days straight and did absolutely nothing other than a bit of reading. Yesterday, I woke up at 8 and drug out to the couch where I slept until 3.

Phew!

Today, I got up and looked around the house at the damage. It was a mess. It was a bit worse because we came home from a weekend away and I just sat everything down and hit the couch.

I thought, “It’s amazing what a Dad will let a kid do when Mom is sick.” It started out as a bit of a grumble.

Then a huge smile overtook me. This was the 1st time in years that I had adult backup when I was sick. This was the 1st time in years that James got to do all the things Dads let kids do when Mom is sick.

So, I’m smiling and thanking God that Lee was here to keep the ship running–even though it wasn’t quite how I would do it.

I hope you are feeling better Lizzie ♥ I had a bad flu after Christmas and it has taken me a long time to get better:) It’s nice to have ‘help’ when mommy is sick even if things don’t get done exactly the way we do them:) My older boys did a lot of dishes & diapers for me when I was sick! They were really glad when they could turn the house over to me again!!!

I just have to point out that this probably couldn’t have happened if Lee currently had a job! Of course, I am praying that God will give him one, but I think you will look back one day, and remember the good times you 3 are able to have right now.

My own husband went through a period of unemployment a few years ago. In between his trying very hard to find a job, we enjoyed lots of time together. I did lots of worrying – both on the inside, and out loud! – later, I regretted that I hadn’t fully enjoyed that time. In fact, we still laugh about the time our son cried and said, “I liked it better when Daddy didn’t have a job!”

God is an on-time God, even when He’s four days late! (John chapter 11)

Lizzie, I loved this quote: “Then a huge smile overtook me. This was the 1st time in years that I had adult backup when I was sick. This was the 1st time in years that James got to do all the things Dads let kids do when Mom is sick.”

    What a blessing you have!
