Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening~Review & Giveaway

by adustyframe ~ July 12th, 2011

Tropical Traditions gave me the opportunity to review their palm shortening.

They sent me a free sample and asked me to review it. I am glad to do so because I’ve been trying to find an alternative to shortening. I just don’t bake things that require shortening because I really don’t feel that it’s healthy.

I tried this in a cookie recipe and they baked up wonderfully and tasted really good. I felt better serving them with this alternative to shortening too.

Here are some recipes on their site you can peek at if you’re interested.

Here is what I like about using this shortening (from their site)

The melting point of our Organic Palm Shortening is 97 degrees F., making it very shelf stable. It is NOT hydrogenised, and contains NO trans fats! It is great for deep-fat frying and baking, and is not prone to rancidity.

Read about palm shortening here.

I also love that it’s organic.

It was no different to use than regular shortening although it’s easier to scoop out of the container!

I’ve already tried palm shortening. We have a soy allergy in the family and can’t use Crisco or similar brands. Palm shortening is the way to go – I use it in lots of things. I’ve baked with it, fried with it… It makes icing cakes fun and creamy, too.

  25. Penny

Picking a favorite product is hard. It depends on the day. If I’m baking, it would be the palm shortening or coconut oil. If my skin is dry or breaking out, it is the cream in the jar – I love the peppermint scented one. (The rest of the famly likes the unscented one.) There are several products I’d like to try!
