Christian Authors

by adustyframe ~ September 28th, 2011

My friend asked me what Christian fiction authors I like. I’ve been meaning to get her a list and just haven’t done it yet.

I’m going to list some of mine. If one you like isn’t on here feel free to add them in the comments. Some I may just not personally care for or I haven’t met them yet! Or I forgot.

In no order:

Robin Lee Hatcher

Suzanne Woods Fisher

Francine Rivers

Neta Jackson

Jan Karon

Brandilyn Collins

Susan May Warren

Beverly Lewis (sometimes–I don’t read every book she writes)

I just read a book by Julie Cave that was pretty good.

Rene Gutteridge the Boo series cracked me up–the storm series is good–I haven’t finished all of them yet.

I actually don’t have a ton of favorite Christian authors. Sometimes I pick up books that I see reviewed on blogs or hear about through the grapevine. I don’t buy many new popular fiction books either.

Actually, I’ll tell you which  authors I consider worth buying–

Jan Karon

Neta Jackson

Miss Read–not exactly Christian but not really secular

Phillip Gulley~just the Harmony series

LM Montgomery

Laura Ingalls Wilder

Those are the only authors that I try to have all of their books on my shelf. The rest, I read at the library, find at the thrift store, or borrow. I have tons of books–don’t get me wrong! I just don’t buy every book by every author. Very few have earned a spot on my permanent shelves because I don’t enjoy them enough to read them again.

Authors I don’t enjoy at all?

Only Janette Oke (although I used to before she wrote a gazillion books) and Karen Kingsbury–I liked her til I read a ridiculous novel about 9/11 that made no sense–way too fantastic. So I haven’t read her again–please don’t be offended just my two cents.

In my opinion, when authors get famous and start writing new books very often go downhill QUICKLY–same old same old in a new cover or a pretty weak plot in the story.

Authors added because a comment reminded me!

Lori Wick

So, I’ve probably ticked you all off haha! Share your favorite Christian authors for my friend, pretty please.

8 Thoughts Shared to Christian Authors

  1. MamaHen

I like Wanda Bruchstter. She writes Amish fiction, along the lines of Beverly Lewis.

  2. Barbara H.

You have some on here I haven’t read – Jackson, Gutteridge, Collins. I actually have all of Janette Oke’s books 🙂 I don’t like scary books, so I don’t think I’d read Collins. You’ve probably seen several I’ve mentioned. A couple of new ones I like are Sarah Sundin and Siri Mitchell. I like Lori Wick and Dee Henderson, but they haven’t written anything in a while. I read a lot of Terri Blackstock years ago but not her recent things. Let’s see – I’ll have to think about it some more

YES! Lori Wick! I like quite a few of hers.

  3. Jennifer

LM Montgomery is still my favorite- since I was my daughter’s age.

  4. judy

Elizabeth Goudge is an oldy but goody. I’ve only read one of hers that I did not LOVE.

  5. Christian Fiction Authors « Stray Thoughts

[…] Lizzie compiled a list of favorite Christian fiction authors for a friend, giving me the idea to do the same. I have simmering on the back burner in my mind a post called “The Case For Christian Fiction.” Someday I hope to get that written. But for today, here are some of my favorite authors: […]

  6. Catherine

I don’t read fiction very often, so I love when people recommend. I’m so busy reading about homeschooling, and autism, and doing reviews.. well, I just have no idea what’s out there anymore! thanks!

  7. Tara

Two new favorites for you: Lynn Austin and Tricia Goyer

    I highly recommend them!

  8. Revka

I recently discovered Sibella Giorello. Her writing is crisp and uncluttered yet very evocative. I also like that her stories aren’t manufactured to conform to a prescribed Christian-ese formula. So many Christian authors write fluffy stories that are just a waste of time.

Susan May Warren and Sarah Sundin definitely make my list, too.
