Feeling Sorry?

by adustyframe ~ November 22nd, 2011

While we were on our trip, we had lunch with my mom’s best friend. She’s known me since I was a baby. It’s a little weird to be “all grown up” and talking on an adult level with someone who was a teacher and a “Mrs.”

Her husband drove semis for many years and while we talked she said, “We just always felt sorry for our child because he was gone so much.”

I said, “Well honestly, we don’t feel sorry at all.”

We just can’t feel sorry for James that Lee is gone sometimes. It’s 100% absolutely NOTHING like really being “gone” was!

We can all talk on the phone–and no $7 fee.

Lee can specify when he wants to be home–within reason.

We can go along–sometimes.

Lee is making $.

Nope we’re not feeling sorry for ourselves or James at all.

I did feel sorry for James when Lee was in prison. I do NOT feel sorry for James that Lee has a job that takes him away from us sometimes.

I guess going through trials and gaining some perspective isn’t all bad is it?

Amen! My Mom/Uncle, my cousin, my brother/I all grew up with traveling Dads. It’s called “earning a living.” You make the most of the time you have. For several of these folks it carried over into their own marriages. And guess what? Having some “alone” time helped both spouses! And as kids we learned to appreciate what it means when Dad is truly tired and to be thankful for his hard work. We were not pitied!! It’s just a fact of our lives.

Keep you your strong positive attitude!
