We’re getting ready to go on a little vacation and I’m checking lists and packing and running to the store for last minute items.

The most important thing I’m taking along is a new comforter for the hotel room. I looked up the accommodations online and their decor just doesn’t seem to coordinate enough for my tastes.

I found a beautiful down comforter that matches their color scheme at an expensive home decor store and I was so happy! I plunked my money down and brought the comforter home.

I keep imagining how lovely it’s going to be the 2 nights we stay there. I decided to leave it there because it really doesn’t go with anything at our house.

Purchasing it cut into our vacation budget significantly but it’s so important to me to feel comfortable. I don’t really think I can stay at a place for 2 nights with decor that’s not up to my standards.

Ok! Are you scratching your head wondering what in the world is my problem? Did you think that my blog was taken over by aliens? (haha).

I heard this illustration recently and it really hit home to me.

We would NEVER put our own money into fluffing up a hotel room. It’s a temporary shelter. It’s not really our home. That would be silly, wasteful, crazy right?

Don’t we do this on the earth? We spend so much time and resources making sure that our sojourn on earth is just perfect when we should be investing in our real home.

Very clever and I see what you’re saying, Lizzie: Where your treasure is, your heart will be also.

But if the beauty of this world is a shadow of things to come then we were made to see it and enjoy it when and where we can. Not to make an idol of it, but to appreciate a good gift from a loving Father.

I think feathering a nest can be an art form and can be done in a way that glorifies God.

Yes it is and I’m not against beauty but I was talking about a hotel room 😉 I don’t really think anyone feathers their hotel room like that. And we can definitely enjoy beauty on earth, but we have to remember where our true home is!

I really did think that your blog got hacked for a minute there!
