No Way….

by adustyframe ~ July 25th, 2012

This spring in AWANA, James had to fill out a page in his workbook about a time in his life that was hard and he had to depend on God for help.

He chose something little that really wasn’t a hard time.

I said, “Why don’t you write down about when Dad was in jail?”

He shut his book and said, “No! I’m not writing that in my book.”

I didn’t make him of course. I know that sharing is very hard and he’s already shared and been laughed at in the past. I told him that all his teachers knew where Dad was, but he still said, “No.”

I don’t blame him. I still don’t like to talk about it or be reminded of it either!

This was a sweet but sad post. I think you are wise to encourage James to share if he desires, but also wise to let him make the decision. You don’t want it to become something he has to hide, so that it’s a deep, dark secret … but don’t want him to feel forced to share things before he’s ready, either. Seems like you’re a wonderful mother to James!

    Thanks for sharing.

Mine did share at a youth conference (church) but otherwise it does not get mentioned. Ever. Yet he’s still puzzled why the rest of humanity remembers it………………
