What Is God Doing During Trials?

by adustyframe ~ September 6th, 2012

During the sermon a few weeks ago, the pastor shared from Exodus 13.

He said that the Israelites didn’t see what God was doing. It seemed that He was leading them into worse situations than what they had left in Egypt.

I know that I’ve felt the same way during many of our trials. “God, do you know what’s going on here?!”

Here’s what he shared about God and trials.

1. God leads us with understanding~v. 17 the passage mentions that God led them around the Philistines not through their land. God knew (understood) that they weren’t ready for war yet.

2. He lead with hope~ v. 19 Joseph’s bones went with Moses–Joseph knew that God would deliver them and Moses and the people are seeing this hope fulfilled.

3. He leads with clarity~ Led with the pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night. It was always in front of them–always clear. This was one pillar incidentally not 2 different ones. It’s the presence of God in their midst.

The difficulty came when it seemed God was leading them into a trap.

Exodus 14:30-31 showed the Israelites (& us) that often God leads through difficulty, but that He is the God of deliverance.

In our lives, how is this shown?

1. God delivers us when we see our need for a Savior.

2. God delivers us in daily situations. We must acknowledge Him and give Him the glory. It wasn’t luck but “God was with us.”

3. He wants us to see by experience His saving power.

4. He wants us to see this world is not all there is. Even during difficulty, there is victory.

So, how should we live?

1. Make prayer a priority. Ask God to open your eyes so you can see Him.

2. Keep a journal (or blog!?) about what God is doing in your life. How is He leading you? How have you been delivered? What is He teaching you?

3. Live like a worshiper– be ready to praise God for EVERYTHING.
