Woot Woot~

I’m excited to share with you that baby boy has been nursing for a couple of weeks now.

He nursed his first 10 days, until the antibiotics from my Csection complications hit my system and then he refused. I don’t know if it made my skin  smell weird to him, or if my supply was affected by the trauma but whatever it was, baby wouldn’t nurse.

I cried and prayed and got help!

I’m so thankful for the lactation consultant that helped me and answered my zillion questions. She gave me tips to help me through the pumping.

I still tried to get baby to nurse but he wouldn’t.

I pumped (and pumped and pumped) and he took bottles for 13 weeks. Then we tried a nipple shield and voila! baby is nursing.

I do hope to wean him off the shield before too many months pass by, but for now I’m so thankful.

It’s so much more pleasant to sit down and cuddle with baby and nurse than it is to pump. Today, we were nursing and I had my feet up on the stool and was drowsy.

I felt a little teary as I thanked God for helping us over this hurdle and smiled at baby’s sweet little sleepy face. Thank you, Jesus!

That’s wonderful news! I’m so impressed with you for sticking with it – and what an encouragement to other moms!

i had to use one of those with my second – truly a miracle. she was loosing weight, and i learned later that hers was a sensory issue – not able to get the ‘latch, suck, swallow’ sequence down. i had weaned my first just five months before getting pregnant again … and had nursed her for 13 months, so i knew what to do. but she couldn’t do it. i can’t remember now how long i used it, but i did nurse her for 13 or 14 months.
