What Are You Fueling?

by adustyframe ~ April 24th, 2014

I heard a great illustration in our Sunday School class a few weeks ago that has stuck with me.

The teacher drew it on the white board and I considered trying to draw it and take a photo to upload but I can’t draw! I’m going to ask you to use your imagination!

Ok, as we go through life, we may often feel stressed, or feel discouraged, or feel angry, or feel down, or feel negative….fill in any feeling.
I’ve heard many people say things like, “Well, I just don’t feel like forgiving her.” or “I don’t feel like serving God.” Or “I don’t feel like ….(fill in the blank).

1st of all, we’re not supposed to let our feelings rule our lives. Feelings change multiple times a day and if we let them rule how we live we’re not going to be very stable!

2nd of all, if we have faith in God, our eyes need to be on Him and our mind needs to be established on His Word.

So for the illustration….imagine that your faith is a pick up truck and your feelings are the cargo in the back. If you fuel the pick up truck, you have what you need to keep traveling forward but if you instead put the gas in the back and fuel up the cargo you’re going to have an explosion and at the very least you won’t be able to move forward.

Spend your time fueling your faith by spending time in the Word and realize that your faith in God is what will help propel you forward. Don’t spend time fueling your negative feelings!

(**Ok you KNOW I’m not saying that depression isn’t real or grief…or that there aren’t situations that are difficult. I’m also not saying “read your Bible and everything will be ok” Just a little disclaimer.)

1 Thought Shared to What Are You Fueling?

Good illustration. I had heard a similar one comparing faith and feelings to a train, and feelings should be the caboose, not the engine. But this is better because our thoughts do fuel one or the other and it is up to us to direct them the right way.
