Summer Stickiness….

by adustyframe ~ June 18th, 2014

I greatly dislike humidity……I am not complaining about summer trust me! We just survived a really looooong winter.
I just don’t like feeling sticky.
I feel like I’m melting!
It’s not even that hot but it’s sure humid.

We don’t have central air and that’s ok… of these days we may save up for it and put it in but we’ve survived all these years.
We usually have a window unit in our bedroom but Lee hasn’t put it in yet.

I carry a fan around the house with me. As long as I have a fan on me and drink something cold I’m usually ok.

If I could skip moving, it would be perfect!

Do you do anything to stay cool when it’s humid?

I can’t imagine living without AC. I’m hot-natured and break into a sweat even with it. My in-laws didn’t have AC but used to have a swamp cooler that blew cool air through at least part of the house.

In Japan, barley tea (mugicha) is used as a thirst quencher on hot days. It’s an acquired taste, I think, but truly delicious when it’s hot. Also, they claim that eating eel helps. 🙂

Sometimes we go and stick our feet in the Genesee River. Fans help too. And a quiet time/siesta during the hottest part of the day.

The one thing I miss from the States, air conditioning! I’ve read things here and there about keeping cool and these stick out: keep the curtains drawn since the sun will heat up your house (Hard to do, my husband is a sun nut), air your house in the morning and evening when it’s cooler and keep the windows shut during the hottest parts, if you have a downstairs sleep there since it’ll be cooler, wear ighter colors and lighter fabrics, cool showers.

That’s about all I can remember. Also I pray for cooler weather quite a bit lol!
