I read this article There’s a lady at the gym and she hates me on Lysa TerKeurst’s blog today and it resonated with me.
I’ve made this mistake and others have made this mistake about me!
Like she says in her post, there are those who make it clear that they don’t like you either by words or emails or messages. But when we don’t know for certain, we should not assume.
I interacted once with someone who talked about horrible homeschoolers in a public space but in the end, it wasn’t that the people were actually horrible to this person.
The person said because of the way they were dressed she knew they were the type of homeschoolers that were judging her.
Who knows? Maybe they were judging.
Or maybe they were just their with their friends and didn’t know anything about this person. Perhaps they would have loved to get to know them if only they weren’t judged for judging!
I’ve been touched by assumptions and most of the time it’s ugly. I attempt to not be that person in other people’s lives. I simply don’t know what I don’t know and if I don’t know, I shouldn’t assume.
What about you? Is it easy for you to assume things that are going on that are actually not happening? Have you ever had anyone assume things about you?
Did you have a chance to read the article? What did you think?
