I’m against sin. I’ll kick it as long as I’ve got a foot, and I’ll fight it as long as I’ve got a fist. I’ll butt it as long as I’ve got a head. I’ll bite it as long as I’ve got a tooth. And when I’m old and fistless and footless and toothless, I’ll gum it till I go home to Glory and it goes home to perdition!” ~ Billy Sunday
When I was a kid, we sang a song in Sunday School, “I hate sin. I hate it bad. I hate sin it makes me mad……” (Hey! I found it online here in case you were dying to listen to it.)
It was a fun little song to drive home the point about how bad sin is.
I do hate sin.
I hate that so many of the stories in the news and this election cycle revolve around sin.
I hate that I have friends dealing with ugly situations because of sin.
I hate that people suffer because of the sin of others (or themselves).
I was thinking of a specific situation yesterday, and thought, “Oh! I hate sin.” My heart was sad. I wasn’t angry or judgmental….just so sad.
The first thing that came to my mind was, “But do you hate your own sin as much as you hate sin in others?”
I would say that I do….of course. But it’s easy to overlook and let things slide or to say that I don’t even care about something.
My prayer today is that I will hate my own sin just as much as I hate sin in others.
