Knitting Behind Bars

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

(this hat was knit by me–I just used it for a knitting photo)
Last year I shared a quote I read in a knitting book. An article talked about knitting in prison and this made me smile.
Skip LeBarge supervises inmates who make knit and crochet animals.
“You ain’t seen nothin’ until a guy doing 800 years [...]

Last of the vacation projects

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Here are the last few projects I worked on over our vacation.
Socks for James–he wears them like slippers. The pattern I found for his pair uses thicker yarn and bigger needles. They knit up quite fast.

Then I just HAD to knit socks for my “due any day now” nephew. We’re so excited but I suppose [...]

Guess What I Finally Finished?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I made them a little bigger than I probably should have. Next time I’ll follow the pattern better!
Aren’t they so cute? The color is a bit off because I took them at night but you can get the idea.
I am so proud of my new sock knitting skill! I did decide that it’s a wonderful [...]

Knitting for the Nephew

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Isn’t this a pretty little blanket? My sister in law doesn’t read my blog (at least I don’t think she does!) so I think I can put a preview here.
I’m enjoying knitting for him and thinking up all sorts of things that he has to have!
It wasn’t so fun when I had to rip several [...]

I saw this on a blog or two today and thought I’d play along. Most of my baby photos aren’t on the computer and my scanner isn’t working lately. So this is all I have–a scrapbook layout or two. Sorry they’re not the best photos either.

I was 3 in both of these.

Rebatching Soap~Tutorial

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

I’m still learning this whole soap making thing. I’m really enjoying it and actually think I’m getting closer to figuring it out.
This was batch #3 and I didn’t know that citrus essential oils don’t do very well in cold process soap making. I used tangerine essential oil in it as well as grated orange peel [...]

What I did on Christmas vacation is….

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

The first week of Christmas break, I mostly got ready for Christmas.
The second week my wonderful siblings were here. (Minus one–boohoo!) We enjoyed just being together.
The third week, I tried to do some of the projects that I had been wanting to learn.
#1. Kool-aid dyeing wool. I read on some blog that she froze the [...]

Knitting in Prison

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I picked up Knitting For Peace yesterday because I saw on another blog that this book has a great pattern for an afghan.
As I looked through it, I found a section on knitting in prisons. The author explained how inmates knit blankets and hats for charities and how doing so helps them pass the time [...]

Countdown to Christmas Paper Chain

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I’m a bit behind. 2 days into December and I didn’t have anything together.
James enjoys having something to count the days until Christmas.
In past years, I’ve filled baby socks with a treat or joke and put them all in a basket. When the socks are empty, it’s time for Christmas.
This year, I don’t really have [...]

Lee’s Hat

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Last week, I worked on a hat for Lee. I was excited to use up some yarn from my “stash”. I had purchased the brown wool for a teddy bear that I never knit. The blue wool was given to me.
This is the first hat I knit in the round so I’m pretty proud of [...]
