When I was in college, I wrote a cookbook for one of my home economics classes–my major.

For many years, I’ve wanted to type it up to share with my family members but I never did. This year, I started tackling the project and decided to turn it into my very first e-book.

I had to giggle a few times. When I was in college, there was no internet and computers were pretty much only owned by “computer geeks”. I typed the original on an electric typewriter and had to hunt around for clip art to cut out and color. Do you remember having to do that?

This computer typing stuff is pretty easy compared to the “good old days”. In case you’re wondering, I did get an “A” on this project.

I’ve spent the past several weeks, updating the cookbook and adding more family favorites. I added some new quotations too.

Visions of Sugarplums contains 50 recipes–from old family favorites to international treats. It also includes charming quotations from classic books and authors as well as tips for Christmas and a few cooking helps. Visions of Sugarplums is a “Santa free” resource, but you’ll also enjoy it if Santa comes to your house.

Reviews

Anonymom is a writer, so her review is very nice!

Visions of Sugarplums: A Collection of Christmas Cookery is a delightful ebook published by Lizzie of A Dusty Frame, filled with those exceptional recipes of holidays past. My mouth waters as I examine the contents:

Gingerbread Waffles
Warm Cranberry Punch
Sweet Potato Casserole
Moravian Cookies
Toffee Squares
Epiphany Cake
Julgrot (Swedish Rice Pudding)
Triple Layer Brownies
Vintage Molasses Cake

The book is sprinkled with holiday traditions from around the world and their corresponding recipes, like finding the lucky single almond in the Julgrot. You’ll find inspirational quotes, a section on making homemade ornaments from kitchen ingredients, suggested family traditions, snow day ideas, and a list of favorite Christmas books. And, of course, lots of love.

Visions of Sugarplums is available for just $7 and is thoughtfully arranged with vintage illustrations—a lovely keepsake for yourself or a special gift for a friend.

Barbara said,It looks great, Lizzie! You’ve included a nice variety of recipes, including some I’ve never heard of before, even though I collect recipes. ;)

From someone who gave it as a gift,

“I got a nice THANK YOU from my daughter for the cookbook. She said it looks GREAT.”

Thank you to those who have purchased it and your kind words about it.

Here’s another special one that made my day.

I just got done reading the whole book…recipes and all…and I just have to tell you it’s awesomely wonderful! You are so talented, I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes! Not only the recipes are great, but all of the inserts on Christmas…they brought a feeling of the Old Christmas magic I used to feel when I was a child…something I’m afraid has left me through the years as I’m getting older. You have managed to bring that back to me, and I thank you with all my heart! God bless you!!!
